Crescendo Music Awards
In the spring of 1999, with a budget of $1,500, six members of the Rotary Club of Tulsa met in the choir room of First United Methodist Church and auditioned 11 student musicians. The Rotarians were so impressed with the talent that they personally added another $600 and awarded the total amount to four students. It was this event that sparked the dream of Rotarian and musician, Joseph A. Bias, and launched what has since become a nationally recognized event featuring world-class musicians.
During its 11 year history, the Crescendo Music Awards program has auditioned over 700 student musicians and has presented more than $265,000 in cash awards to the winners.
Currently, every Spring, the program offers annual prizes totalling over $35,000 awarded in three of four disciplines: Piano, Strings, Brass and Voice.
