Rotarians and guests visited Celia Clinton Elementary, the Club’s adopt-a-school, on Wednesday, October 28. The first meeting held at the school in nearly two years, most agreed it should be an annual event, as it makes clear how much our involvement matters.
Members enjoyed a box lunch while students enthusiastically played the drums, taking great pride in their performance.
Mayor Kathy Taylor also proclaimed the day Mike Chittom Day, and we were shown the new signage for Mike Chittom Park. Mike's immediate family attended, and received warm applause from the Club’s members.
Rotarian of the Day, Desiree Doherty introduced Celia Clinton principal, Tanya Davis, who provided an update on the school' s ability to fund 12 new classrooms and other building improvements, as well as an enlarged cafeteria. Principal Davis also said the school had received a donated saltwater aquarium and the school’s plans to use it as a teaching device … once there are some fish in it! So, if anyone has any extra fish, you know what to do with them.
Several Rotarians also brought basic paper supplies and children’s clothing – items that are greatly appreciated by the school staff, and always needed.
A good time was had by all.
